While the popular television show Portlandia might exaggerate the citizens of Portland a bit, the city definitely has some quirky qualities and its own flavor of life. It is known for its microbreweries, environmental awareness, liberalism, and rose gardens. Only 70 miles from the Pacific Ocean, many visitors to Portland also make time for a trip to the cold, yet beautiful coastline. Lots of bands, artists, authors, television shows, and movies all came from Portland this makes for a great entertainment tour. Portland is also home to many unique local shops that have a certain panache that major chains lack.
