Skyline view of Raleigh, NC (large)

Raleigh is a very historic town with lots of modern upgrades. The J.C. Raulston Arboretum includes over 5,000 taxa of flowers, vines, trees, shrubs, and other lush greenery. The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame includes several interesting artifacts, such as Richard Petty's race car. The Marbles Kids Museum is loads of fun, with an IMAX theatre and a unique 2-story stainless steel wall grid inset with over 1.2 million marbles. Raleigh also has a very active Theatre in the Park, which is fun for the whole family or perfect for date night.
